Week in Pictures…

Been a while since I wrote… so I thought I’d use the pictures on my camera to talk about a few things…

They picked up the trash….  whoo hoo.  About time!  I don’t have formal political training, but I am positive I could have coordinated that ‘Ike debris round-up’ better than the people that are in charge now.  Ethan was mezmerized with the big equipment.

We went to the pumkin patch on Saturday morning.  I had Derek and Ethan with me, so I couldn’t look around as much as I wanted at the craft fair.  We paid about $20 for a pumkin that Ethan wanted.  A long lean one.  I’ll carve it Thursday night-I hope it turns out well.  This little kid, in the picture below, I have no idea who he is.  He just took advantage of the photo op.  ;)

Melissa called Saturday night and asked if we’d like to go bowling with them.  I hadn’t bolwed in about 9 years, but I was up for it.  So we met them at the bowling alley.  My best game was a 100 score with bumpers, so I am way rusty.  My arm was sore from the 14 pound ball I was weilding.  It got to the point where I just tossed the darn thing down the alley.  I was using the kid’s ball too.  I like bowling, but in moderation….. and a light ball.

Derek’s birthday was this past week too.  Now he is 35-like me.  I will be happy until I turn 36 and will have to wait until next October for him to catch up.  But for now-I’m happy.  He had the standard chicken fried steak, and for an added treat banana pudding in lieu of cake.  I also made a huge chocolate chip cookie.  I called it ‘Cookie.’  Here is a picture of Cookie….

Yesterday evening, a wonderful thing happened.  The man came to drop off OUR roofing supplies!  There IS light at the end of the tunnel.  It has been 6 weeks with a damaged roof, and when it rains-you betcha we get water in the house, despite the tarps.  Not a fun thing.  Hopefully they will be here in the morning to put on the roof.  It will be a welcome feeling-to have a roof again.

Hubby

I was watching Dr. Phil, and saw a couple where the husband was like an extra kid for this poor woman.  He lied, cheated, and was completely unrealistic in his expectations of a marriage.  Now, he was pondering if he should go with his wife, or go through with the divorce (the wife filed-go wife!) and persue a relationship with his home wrecker.  I feel for her-I’ve been right where she is.

Luckily, things changed for me.

I have a great husband.

I know.  I know.  A lot of people can say this-but I really do.

First and foremost, he puts up with all my ‘bi-polarishness’.  That alone earns him the gold star of the year award.

While some moms are expected to take care of the house, cut the lawn, work full time, discipline the kids, take CARE of the kids, clean up after the pets, do the grocery shopping, make dinner, take the kids to extra curricular activities, (the list goes on and on)-my hubby actually helps.

He is smart, funny, handy, honest, and actually, genuinely cares about me and that alone makes him the best hubby ever.

I love him.

The fence is up!!!

Not much time to sit down and type lately, but as of this weekend, we actually have a fence.  wooo hooo!

I had to come clean with the dogs taking to the streets that other day.  (Hey-I got busy!)

With everything going on, I forgot about the Den meeting last night.  I feel SOOOO bad about it.

Wednesday the new adjuster is coming.  I hope this one is more reasonable.

They picked up the trash this weekend.  Those trucks were a big deal to Ethan.  He loved em!

Interesting email

I have several different emails.

I actually use one, but I have several for those junk emails you get for just about anything.  I don’t get too many that are sexual in nature-unless you want to count the ones that will enlarge my nonexistant willy.  Everyone knows those.  I get a lot of the home loan and ‘be sure your credit report is accurate.’  I don’t like those.  Boring stuff.  I did get one today that gave me a chuckle.  Most times I just click the little delete checkbox on the top of them all and be done-like I said one caught my eye today.  It said ‘Clean Your Colon.’

That’s pretty random.

Intrigued, I opened it and this is what I saw….

Now, first of all…  is this saying one would EAT that big of a hamburger?  Then, promptly forgot they did?  ALSO, is it insinuating that it is stuck up there somewhere?  Is it also saying it weighs TWENTY pounds?  SOOOO twenty pounds lost by cleaning your colon.  It will also make your pants looser too.  I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday and I pity the fool that did-and fell for this crazy sales pitch.

Three cheers for….. POWER!

Well, today was a normal old day.  Ethan went to school, I did the typical mommy errands, and micro managed Derek on the after storm fence building wrap up.  Until….  2:15 when the power went out.  I heard a BOOM and then poof out went the lights.  I called my mother in law to tell her I could not stand another night by candlelight and I had had it-I was coming over in a couple of hours if the situation didnt fix itself.  I saw the Centerpoint guy out on the street and he looked at me and said it was going to be a ‘while’.  Not good.  It finally came back on at 6.  Electricity, I love you.

It rained today and I found out that our tarps on the roof aren’t doing their job 100%.  It is such a sad sound, the drip drip drip from the ceiling in a quiet house.  I hate it.  I called Nanny for someone to talk to.  Poor lady.

Lazy Day

Last night Ethan went to Parker’s birthday party. Poor thing had his birthday when Ike came, and the party was supposed to be then.  We finally all got together to have it, and the kids had a blast!  There wasn’t a whole lot of scheduled events, the kids jus played and then they had a big old birthday cookie from some store at the Town Center.  They ate BBQ that Ray made, and a good time was had by all.  Ethan went to the zoo today, and I have yet to find out how that went.  He is still there.

Pete came over today and he and Derek played Saint’s Row and we talked about Ike stories and stuff.  I still want to go over to Mom’s and get some of that Candy Bar cake.  Need to get back on my diet too, so maybe I will just stay here.  ;)

I have mostly been lounging around today and reading.  I am almost finished with my book.  I hopefully will be able to go to Derek’s parent’s house tommorrow with him.

Until next time…..

A Weekend In September

I am currently reading this book-about the Galveston Storm of 1900.  I guess it fits with my weird fascination with hurricanes lately (for obvious reasons).  It is quite saddending to read about all the people’s lives lost.  You really can’t understand the full scope of being in a hurricane unless you HAVE been in one.  Kind of like a secret society.  We jokingly called Derek a ‘Hurricane Noob’ during Ike, but now I think he has grown in his understanding of how scared you can be, and how serious it all is.  I had spun tales of Hurricane Alicia countless times to him, but now I think he ‘gets it’.  I was only 10 when Alicia came, but it still amazes me how vivid the memories of it are.  As Pete says, ‘September 12th 4 am-I’ll never forget.’  That’s when the strongest winds and biggest fear came in to play during the storm.

In other news…

OJ was found guilty in his court case.  It has taken many years, but justice finally prevailed.

Boy scouts

Another foray into normalcy…  our first Boy Scout meeting.

Ethan is very excited to be a Wolf this year, not a ‘Tiger baby’. he says.  Oh, to be young again.

We still haven’t heard frm that POS insurance adjuster.  I hate liars.  If he would have just said, ‘It will be done when it gets done.’ Instead of, ‘I will have this in in 3 days…’  It would have been much smoother for him.  And us.  I’m going to apply for FEMA stuff if this goes on 13 more days.  No joke.

We had a good time, catching up with everyone, but the mosquitoes were horrid.
